Here are 6 easy syrup recipes to make at home:

1. Caramel Syrup

Ingredients:

  • 3 tbsp monk fruit or coconut sugar
  • 1/3 cup salted butter
  • 2/3 cup heavy cream or coconut cream ( vegan)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • dash of salt ( optional)

Method:

Into a large sized saucepan, combined the granulated sugar and butter and cook on low heat until the sugar dissolves. Stir occasionally. Stir in the cream. Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 8-10 mins.

Turn off the heat and whisk in the vanilla extract, let the caramel mixture cool before transferring it into an airtight container for storage. The sauce will thicken more as it cools from hot to warm. Use coconut cream if you want to make a vegan caramel syrup.

Caution: Do this on low heat and be careful, as the mixture may bubble up and rise. That’s why using a large sized saucepan is advised.

2. Strawberry Syrup

Ingredients:

  • 450 grams freshly chopped strawberry or blueberry or 3 bananas
  • 1 cup date sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

Method:

Into a saucepan, add in the strawberries, sugar and water and place it over medium heat. Stir the mixture, until the sugar dissolves completely and the strawberries begin to soften. Then, bring the mixture to a boil and add let it simmer for 10 minutes, until the strawberries have become completely soft and mashable. Turn off the heat and add in the lemon juice, mix and then let it cool completely.

Next, into a blender, add in this mixture and blend until smooth and liquidy. Add in a tablespoon of water if you wish to have the syrup more thinner in consistency. Strain the mixture into a jar and allow to cool before serving.

3. Chocolate Syrup

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup coconut sugar or granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • A pinch of salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Method:

Into a medium sized saucepan, add in the sugar, cocoa powder, salt and water and mix until smooth. Then, turn on the heat and bring the mixture to a simmer, while continuously mixing.

Then, reduce the heat to low and let it continue to simmer for a few minutes, until the mixture has thickened.

Lastly, turn off the heat, add in the vanilla extract, give it a mix and let the mixture cool completely before transferring it into an airtight container for storage.

4. Pancake Syrup

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup Water
  • 1 cup Monk fruit sugar
  • 1 tbsp Maple extract

Method:

Into a saucepan, add in the sugar, maple syrup and water and place it over medium heat. Stir the mixture, until the sugar dissolves completely. Then, bring the mixture to a boil and add let it simmer for 4 to 5 minutes. Give it a stir and turn off the heat. Let it cool down completely. Then transfer it into an airtight container for storage.  If you want the syrup to be thicker than add in 1/2 tsp Xanthan gum after you turn off the heat and whisk it well into the mixture.

5. Fruit Syrup

Ingredients:

  • 450 grams freshly chopped blueberry pieces or strawberry or 3 bananas
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

Method:

Into a saucepan, add in the blueberries, sugar and water and place it over medium heat. Stir the mixture, until the sugar dissolves completely and the blueberries begin to soften. Then, bring the mixture to a boil and add let it simmer for 10 minutes, until the blueberries have become completely soft and mashable. Turn off the heat and add in the lemon juice, mix and then let it cool completely.

Next, into a blender, add in this mixture and blend until smooth. Add in a tablespoon of water if you wish to have the syrup more thinner in consistency.

6. Date Syrup

Ingredients:

  • 500 g dates
  • 4 cups water

Method:

Soak your dates in hot water for 20 minutes to get rid of impurities, discard the soaking water afterwards. Deseed the dates and place the soaked dates in a large lidded pot with 4 cups of water. Bring to a gentle boil and then simmer for 1-2 hrs. After it is cooled, place a sieve over a large bowl and line the sieve with a large piece of cheesecloth or use a nut bag. Squeeze all of the water from the cooked dates really well. Pour the date juice into a pot and allow it to come to a gentle simmer. Simmer, uncovered, for about 45-60 minutes until the excess water evaporates and the syrup reduces by approximately half.

Use it as a natural sweetener for drinks, coffee, cocktails and more.
